In films there are certain conventions that are followed depending on genre. We discussed some of these conventions and found that vampire films usually have conventions such as the characters having pale skin, fangs, capes and should usually involve isolation in forests or castles with coffins and mysterious beings. The typical thought of vampires is that they suck blood to live and they dislike garlic. They usually have eternal life and are a powerful being in a patriarchal story where the male vampire preys on the female. A lot of films that follow the conventions can be found that the male vampire falls in love with a female human however in the Byzantium trailer the typical conventions were challenged as the vampire is a young girl who falls in love with a male. The fangs have been changed to sharp nails and the opening of the trailer does not seem to look like a typical vampire film however it has the dark lighting and the isolation of the beach.
